If your club has a membership night, the District will give your club $50 towards the expenses of your event. Call District Treasurer Mike Ruleman at 540-885-2215 for your club's check or ask any member of the cabinet. This money is available once every year.
A great 2008 is in the making. Indeed, it is a year of celebration. We are celebrating the 20th year for Rudy Bear, 40th year for the Ruritan Foundation and the 80th year for Ruritan National.
It is an honor to be your 2008 Woodrow Wilson District Governor. I am excited to work beside you and look forward to visiting your club throughout the upcoming year. I want you to know that I will always put your best interest first in all that I do while following the guidelines of our great organization. I am at your service and want you to feel free to contact me at any time. My vision is to continue to carry the Woodrow Wilson District forward to the best of my ability and end the year feeling good within our hearts as a family of Ruritans who has succeeded.
We are a strong district committed to the betterment of our communities through fellowship and goodwill. Together we can retain and grow in membership, assist each other as we strive to take care of our own club members and functions while providing support by attending other club and district activities. We are a family of Ruritans who understands the importance of making our communities a better place for the future of our youth, an assisted place for our elderly while lending an open hand to all in need. Although humble in our actions, we are proud of what we stand for and all we do.
I hope that you take the time to read through your Spring 2008 National Magazine. There are many important items and most helpful information provided such as suggestions for assisting the foundation, celebrating Rudy, insurance coverage and so much more. Make plans now to attend the 2009 National convention. The early bird gets the worm and rooms are already expected to be completely booked in the host hotel within the near future. Has a member in your club recruited two new members, if so have you sent in a request (pg. 23) for the golden key award to be presented? Have you recruited a new member into your club and requested the 80th anniversary coin (pg. 21) to pass along to “Share to Show You Care”? Is your watch set to “Go-n-Grow” the family of Ruritan? My goals for 2008 are for all clubs to consider the following four items and add them to their community service objectives. I realize that some clubs have never participated in one or more of these in the past. I am requesting that every club take all into consideration this year.
I would like to see 100% participation for 2008. What a wonderful announcement at our District Convention. Together we can do this! Remember a $5.00 donation is participating although a larger amount would be appreciated. Won’t you help make this possible?
In closing I want to say I care about each club and member in this district. I want to wish everyone the very best in all you do this year and feel free to call me whenever I can be of assistance. Remember to take the time to publicize your club projects so that others will see that “Goodness Grows Where Ruritan Goes”!
Yours in Service, Hilda D. Hensley, 2008 District Governor
