If your club has a membership night, the District will give your club $50 towards the expenses of your event. Call District Treasurer Mike Ruleman at 540-885-2215 for your club's check or ask any member of the cabinet. This money is available once every year.
I was amazed by the number of different people who work in unison to get the job done with such caring and fellowship. The quality family time, the pride and responsibility, along with sportsmanship shown by all the youth was so refreshing to witness. The character, manners and conduct shown by all youth as you spoke with them individually about their experiences was above measure by today’s standards.
The bids for livestock I was told by those around me were all above market price. My heart ached for some youth who obviously had been crying by the departure of a beloved companion. As explained to me, the bidders not only support the youth but when it’s all said and done their bid is in reality a huge donation to the show. The buyers were from all over the area. With calculator in one hand they appeared to show pride and joy as they raised their other hand to bid. It was heartwarming to overhear several buyers around me being thanked by various participants in the show.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each club who contributes to this very worthwhile show. Your contribution is a very important part in making this a reality each year. Not only are you assisting by donations, you are building the future character of our youth and preserving the vital small farm life in a very changing world.
I would suggest anyone attending this show to realize the full impact it makes upon our communities. I feel you would also come away with a happy heart knowing we as Ruritans are truly making a difference! Everyone is a winner by the MARKET ANIMAL SHOW!

Beginning in 2008, small tax-exempt organizations like Ruritan clubs, that previously were not required to file returns, may be required to file an annual electronic notice, Form 990-N, Electronic Notice (e-Postcard) for Tax-Exempt Organizations not Required To File Form 990 or 990-EZ. This filing requirement applies to tax periods beginning after December 31, 2006. Organizations that do not file the notice will lose their tax-exempt status.
Many Ruritan clubs, whose gross receipts are normally $25,000 or less, were not required to file Form 990, Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax, or Form 990-EZ, Short Form Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax. With the enactment of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA), these small tax-exempt organizations will now be required to file electronically Form 990-N, also known as the e-Postcard, with the IRS annually. Samples of the e-Postcard are not yet available but when they are, Ruritan National will make copies available to Ruritan clubs.
